Digital transformation has become the unavoidable trend of our time. Countries around the world are taking the lead in digitalization for economic development. The new momentum generated by technological innovation and digital transformation will accelerate profound changes in productivity and production relations and redefine the relationship between government, society, businesses and individuals. As a new factor of production, data is integrated into the production, distribution, exchange and consumption of value. The multiplier effect of data-driven productive factors is important to promote high-quality development and common prosperity.

Digital-driven common prosperity is about quickly allowing the pie to grow appropriately and spreading it fairly and efficiently.

It should be noted that high-quality development is an important prerequisite for achieving common prosperity. It bridges the gap between regional, urban and rural development and income distribution and also tackles issues of horizontal inequality and vertical social mobility. Under the triple pressure of shrinking demand, shocking supply and falling expectations, the foundations for shared prosperity are not yet strong enough. Therefore, we must use the resources at our disposal and do our best to promote common prosperity through high-quality development.

The development dividend could be widely shared if we achieve high-quality development to “grow the pie”.

Digitization helps foster high-quality development. Digital technology/capacity enables companies to innovate business model and rebuild industrial ecology. For example, we can accelerate the digital transformation of traditional manufacturing and agricultural industries, promote the development of the digital economy, and further consolidate the industrial base of common prosperity. We can actively cultivate the data factor market, comprehensively improve the value of data factoring, and make big data a new engine of high-quality economic development. We can promote the sustainable and healthy development of the platform economy, effectively narrow the digital divide between different regions and groups, and better support quality development and life.

Based on high-quality development, a fair and efficient “pie-sharing” system is the essence of common prosperity.

Common prosperity is the fundamental principle of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It means that all people, through hard work and mutual help, can enjoy prosperity, self-confidence, self-improvement, a livable environment and a harmonious society with universal and inclusive public services, all conducive to the achievement of the comprehensive development of humanity and the comprehensive progress of society. The fruits of reform and development will be shared to contribute to a good life.

Therefore, policy tools are not only about income distribution, but also about everyone’s spiritual wealth and other public welfare improvements. Digitalization plays a role in accelerating the sharing of public services, promoting ecological green transformation and improving social governance.

For example, the county medical services community is a new development to help with basic medical care issues. Building on the smart services platform of the education services community, digitization is boosting educational resource matching, quality assessment, and rural-urban teacher exchanges. We can also build a digital-oriented mechanism to realize the value of green products, create synergy in digital and green development, and further improve the brand image of cities and people’s quality of life.
